Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) – Canadian Hoe Sales Begin 2023 at a 14-year low

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) recently released its January 2023 national statistics.

Highlights:

National home sales declined 3% month-over-month in January.
Actual (not seasonally adjusted) monthly activity came in 37.1% below January 2022.
The number of newly listed properties rose 3.3% month-over-month.
The MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) declined by 1.9% month-over-month and was down 12.6% year-over-year.
The actual (not seasonally adjusted) national average sale price posted an 18.3% decline year-over-year in January.

Architect – Eric Parry

Eric Owen Parry is a British architect. Born in 1952 in Kuwait. He studied at the Newcastle University School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape as well as the Royal College of Arts and the Architectural Association School of Architecture. In 1983 he founded Eric Parry Architects. His work has been shown in various international exhibitions. He recently obtained a Doctor of Arts Honoris Cause at the University of Bath.

Ottawa third on list of cheapest cities for those wishing to relocate

CIA Landlords Insurance has released an international relocation study. The study reveals that Ottawa is the 3rd cheapest city in the world to relocate to. Athens, Greece came in first Brussels, Belgium came in second. Summary details can be found here. The complete study can be found here.

SoPa – South of Parliament Launch Party

On Wednesday a launch party was held for the rebranding of the Ottawa downtown core to SoPa. Yes SoPa, an acronym for south of Parliament. Here’s hoping! Last time there was an attempt to rebrand a neighbourhood it was a bit farther west in Hintonburg. Their attempt was to create an area called the QUAD (Quartiers des Artists, or Art District), alas when discussing that with a client heavily involved in the Ottawa Art Scene he’d never hear this. So here’s hoping SoPa fares better.

Alof Finance has put together a list of 50 items you should consider getting rid of. That’s quite a list! I’d say a good list to peruse and question what it is you have and what you should get rid of. Of course some of these items you will want to keep, but perhaps then make it a conscious decision to keep and organize the things you do keep. Dare I say organize in the space cleared up by having discarded less useful things.

Architect – Woods Bagot

Woods Bagot in an Australian archicture firm based in Adelaide, South Australia. It was founded in 1869 by Edward John Woods. Walter Bagot joined him in 1905. They now have studios in Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East and North America. With such a long history they would have of course explored various architectural styles from Gothic in its early years to designs inspired by the natural world.
