Architect – Reza Mohtashami

January 25, 2023 by Claude Jobin Leave a Comment

Reza Mohtashami in an Iranian architect, he was born in 1989 in Mashhad, Iran. He studied architecture at the University of Science and Technology in Tehran. In 2018 he founded his own firm: Reza Mohtashami Studio. Despite his young age he has been practicing architecture for 13 years. Mohtashami is most influenced by the work of Tadao Ando and Rem Koolhaas.

I can’t remember encountering an architect who loves black quite as much. “Black is very vague. Black means power and has a high character and prestige. It is very mysterious.” Reza Mohtashami

Sanjay Puri is the principal at Sanjay Puri Architects. Puri studied architecture at the Academy of Architecture in Mumbai. Subsequently, he worked with Hafeez Contractor until he founded Sanjay Puri Architects in 1992. The very sought out firm is now comprised of close to 100 architects and designers.

“Evolving a dialogue of spaces that transcend the ordinary in the way they are perceived while resolving the functional aspects in a more conducive way than ways explored earlier and simultaneously forming volumes sculpturally is innovation within the architectural sense.” Sanjay Puri

Architect – Ricardo Legorreta – Part 2

December 28, 2022 by Claude Jobin

Last week we visited with Ricardo Legorreta in Mexico City, today we explore his work in other cities of Mexico. Legorreta was aware of his heritage and reinterpreted this heritage in contemporary architecture. The vibrant colours typical of the arts are everywhere to be seen. On another level of awareness he was always conscious of what his client desired and needed.

Architect – Ricardo Legorreta

December 21, 2022 by Claude Jobin

Today we fast forward 200 years, leaving James Wyatt and England behind, we cross the pond to find ourselves in Mexico set to explore Ricardo Legorreta.

Ricardo Legorreta Vilchis was a prolific Mexican architect (1931-2011). Born in Mexico, he completed his architecture studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1953. In 1963 he opened his own firm. Legorretta was a disciple of Luis Barragán. In many ways we can see Barragán’s style – but we can also see it evolve, develop, broaden. Today we look at his buidings in Mexico City.

Architect – James Wyatt – Churches

December 7, 2022 by Claude Jobin

We started our exploration of James Wyatt a couple of weeks ago. Last week we looked at his buildings at Oxford. This week we explore the Churches either designed by or restored by Wyatt.

Wyatt became so popular that he had too many commissions – more than he could handle. Plus of course his official duties kept him busy. This became a problem for he would appear enthusiastic when first meeting a new client, but his interest would wane partly due to time constraints, partly due to the attraction to a new project.

Architect – James Wyatt – Oxford

This week we pursue our exploration of James Wyatt started last week. Today we focus on his work at Oxford.

Initially, Wyatt designed in the Palladian style and the Romanesque classical style. Later in his career, he turned towards the Gothic style. Towards the end of his career he turned to the Greek classical style.

In 1792 he was appointed Surveyor-General making him the most prominent architect of that time. Indeed he became so popular that his reputation was at times affected due to the lack of time he had to give a project.

He earned the nickname “Wyatt the Destroyer” as some of his restoration work could sweep away much of the original building.

Claude and Molly are truly amazing!

I live very far out of town and needed an Ottawa real estate agent after my father died.
I picked them after looking online.

Well I picked the right ones! They were and are extraordinary. Because I live so far away our family needs for cleaning the house out and getting it ready to sell were huge, and to me, insurmountable.

I couldn't have done it without them, and to top this off, they are friendly and just great people. Thank you so much Claude and Molly.

All the best, Rachel

You’re fantastic!

Allan

A huge Thank YOU

You did a yeoman's service with helping us find and buy our house.
We are so grateful for your insights and patience.
It was a big learning curve (and I am still trying to figure out why milk is in a bag . . .) I look forward to hanging out, I mean possibly working with you when I arrive here full time;-) In the meantime, thank you again from us both. Arica and Eric

Fortunate indeed to have met Molly Hoyle

Over the past couple of weeks we were very fortunate indeed to have met Molly Hoyle.
We were selling our home and Molly brought her client to view it knowing it would be a home that they would be interested in....which by the way they were as they did end up purchasing. It was our fortunate luck that we met Molly through this endeavour. My husband and I were selling our house with Grapevine and as we are not experienced sellers there were a few times we were very close to just taking it off the market and staying here. Her experience, knowledge, kindness to us, her understanding that this was a difficult decision especially for my husband made the whole difference for us. Molly's professionalism and expertise, her ability to 'walk a fine line' while working for her client and yet to be so kind and gentle with us was amazing. We feel the whole experience gave us the opportunity to meet and talk with Molly and to value her knowledge. You can be assured that we will highly recommend her to any of our friends who need a conscientious, honest, trustworthy realtor. Sadly we will miss talking with Molly but we only wish her the very best in the future and say 'thank you Molly' for all her help and support. Sincerely, Lenore and Ralph

I really appreciate your hard work,

I will refer you and Molly to friends and family if they are looking to sell. Yana
